Welcome to our Christmas newsletter. We can't quite believe we're already in December - 2023 has flown in! 

It has been a great year marked by gatherings large and small and newly forged connections and collaborations. For us it has been very rewarding to meet so many new faces and encourage groups to get outside and enjoy the benefits of nature. 

We have held a varied programme of Live Demos and other events throughout the year, including the inaugural World Therapeutic Horticulture Day in May.

As ever, we are grateful to each and every one of you who have taken the time to support us whether it's volunteering, fundraising or donating. For our small charity, every bit of support is hugely appreciated.

World Therapeutic Horticulture Day
 

A global celebration of therapeutic horticulture, took place on the 18th of May. The day was dedicated to highlighting the numerous therapeutic benefits of horticulture and gardening, such as improved mental and physical health, new skills and social connections as well as the positive impact it can have on the environment.

The celebration was the brainchild of Fiona Thackeray, CEO of Trellis, inspired by fellow therapeutic gardeners Mirela Maganha in Brazil and Derrick Stowell of the American Horticulture Therapy Association in the USA. Since sharing the idea, many groups from around the world worked together from Peru to Australia to Ukraine and India, putting in a huge effort to make the day a success. And what a success it was! 

We are now planning the second World Therapeutic Horticulture Day for 18 May 2024 – we’ll keep you updated. 
Seminar Series 2023

March saw the return of our International Seminar Series for the third year. 

Taking place online on 7th and 8th
March, it was a dynamic and inspiring couple of days. There was an international line up of presenters with experts from
Ukraine, the Caribbean, the USA, Austria, Germany, Ecuador and Iceland to name a few. The series included a creative mix of theory and practice, with practitioners
sharing their extensive and varied
experiences and knowledge of therapeutic gardening and a worldwide audience soaking up new learning and ideas.

The aim of the Seminar Series is to bring together experts from around the world who share good practice and learning on how to use gardening to support people’s wellbeing.

We are planning to hold another Seminar Series in March 2024, with speakers from Portugal, Germany and Hong Kong confirmed, so keep a lookout for updates.

Live Demo season

Our live demos have been a great success throughout the year, with the last one taking place on 23 November. It was great to see so many faces both new and familiar. 

The activities demonstrated in each demo can be adapted for all abilities and added to your tabletop gardening repertoire.

We've already got 3 Live Demos lined up for January and February 2024 so head over to our website to sign up!

Trellis Conference 
 

Our Conference took place in November at The Bield in Blackruthven after a 3 year hiatus. A fantastic day of international and UK-based presenters, workshops and networking, the event brought together healthcare professionals, horticulturalists, researchers, and educators to share their knowledge and experience in the field of therapeutic gardening. Our keynote speakers, Anne and Christine Meore who work in New York, were coming to Europe in November on a family trip which made it affordable for us to have these inspiring practitioners join us in Perth to share their work with us.

It was a brilliant platform for attendees to discover innovative approaches, research findings, and success stories related to the therapeutic benefits of gardening.

We can't wait for our next conference!
