There are three types of legacy: 1, The 'residue' of the estate is what is left after all other bequests, taxes and debts have been paid. You can give the entire residue or a share of it (eg 25%) 2. Pecuniary legacies specify an exact sum of money (eg £1000) 3. A specific legacy relates to a particular item such as stock, shares or property.
