We are well and truly into our Winter season now and being outdoors isn't quite as tempting! But there are still many exciting activities running at projects in our network the length and breadth of Scotland. It's been another busy year for the team here at Trellis and we're looking forward to the year ahead.

National Care Conference 

The National Care Conference took place in Glasgow in mid-November and we were delighted to be exhibiting. Our terrific Trellis duo, Jenny and Joan were there on the day, giving floral demonstrations on our stand and then an interactive insight session in the afternoon called 'Easy Florals'. It was a super session and great to see so many faces, new and familiar, attending.

Solar Dye Jars

Fieldworker Emma was recently out helping a project in the Scottish Borders. It was here she learnt about solar dyeing. Have a go at home in a few easy steps!

  • Choose some natural materials i.e. flowers, leaves, sticks etc).
  • Pop them in a jar with a pre-mordanted (the process that makes the colour stick to the wool/fabric) yarn, or another item e.g. a pair of socks, or a cotton bag
  • Leave them in a sunny sport for about two months. The jar might need water levels topped up.
  • After two months you wash the yarn (this bit is a bit smelly - kids love it), then you can use if for knitting, weaving, and other crafts.
