Join us for a global celebration of ‘World Therapeutic Horticulture Day’ on the 18th of May. We aim to raise awareness of therapeutic horticulture so that more people understand this amazing practice that uses plants, gardens, and nature to help people improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life. There are many reasons to celebrate therapeutic horticulture. First and foremost, it has been shown by over 30 years of research evidence to be an effective approach to help people deal with a wide range of physical and mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, and chronic pain. It can also help people improve social skills, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase self-esteem. The day has garnered support from the Scottish Government with Mr Fairlie, Minister for Agriculture and Connectivity saying; "World Therapeutic Horticulture Day is a great opportunity to celebrate the many benefits that gardening and spending time in nature can bring to our mental and physical wellbeing. Here in Scotland, I am aware that Trellis and its members are at the forefront of developing therapeutic horticulture, which provides support to many people who are experiencing mental health difficulties, physical health conditions and those feeling socially isolated. I wish Trellis and its members a productive day as they represent Scotland on the global stage, where best practice and professional insights will be shared between other participating nations.” How will you help celebrate? We have lots of resources available to help raise the profile of therapeutic horticulture.
