Hours: Hours may be ad hoc to cover leave or sickness or for specific projects that may be short to medium term. This could range from working a few hours at a one-off event or up to 3 days a week over several months.
Salary: between £15 and £25 per hour depending on the assignment, including time for preparation, planning and evaluation.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Delivery of Urban Roots projects and programmes which contribute specifically to environmental improvements and community development. This will include:
Working with communities, youth groups and schools to support people to take action to improve their health and the local environment
Delivering community gardening volunteer group sessions in the Southside.
2. Support the training and development of individuals and groups in environmental awareness and community food growing.
3. Support volunteers so they receive a valuable experience through Urban Roots, including training, enjoyment and a sense of achievement.
4. Work closely and in partnership with agencies including NHS, Glasgow City Council, local housing associations and others as appropriate to deliver projects.
5. To help promote Urban Roots’ profile and achievement within the local area in order to attract new volunteers/learners and raise public awareness of Urban Roots’ programmes and activities.
6. Ensure that all activities adhere to Urban Roots’ policies and procedures, with particular emphasis on health and safety procedures for practical project work.
7. Offer localised, ‘hands on’ and day to day input into delivery as necessary.
8. To check and maintain any resources as allocated.
9. Any other reasonable duties to perform the job role.

An opportunity has now emerged to join the Board of Trustees as Chairperson. This is a voluntary position.

Role/Duties
The Board of Trustees meet monthly and the Chair's role would involve; providing strategic leadership; chairing meetings; working with other Trustees, the Development Manager and volunteers, and liaising with a number of important external stakeholders, including funders. It is an exciting stage of our development as we move from being a small community group to a social enterprise with land, a farmhouse, kitchen garden, a bike hub, wood and arts workshop, staff, lots of volunteers, support, funding and infrastructure.

Skills required
We seek someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ideally with prior experience in a governance role and a passion for the environment and sustainability. A good grasp of at least one of the following would be an advantage: business development and growth, social enterprise, budgeting and financial strategy, employment law and/or HR, fundraising, community development, environmental sustainability, people management.

The Walled Garden is around a half acre of ground within Dollar Park, Falkirk.
Falkirk Justice Services renovated the walled garden after it fell into disrepair and Cyrenians assumed responsibility for the day to day management of the garden in August 2015.

The aim of the garden is to manage a programme of maintenance and development for those on community payback orders to participate in, and to bring back into use a beautiful space that is open to public.

The post holder will be responsible for the support and management of people on community payback orders and the engagement of volunteers to ensure that we meet these aims. 

We are looking for a skilled and dynamic individual with a “can do” attitude and a genuine interest in gardens and working outdoors. Knowledge of the Justice system is desirable and excellent interpersonal skills will enable you to motivate and inspire participants to get the most out of the opportunities that the garden presents. You should also have the ability to demonstrate Cyrenians values of Compassion, Respect, Integrity and Innovation in the work that you do.

The Mental Health Occupational Therapy department in Fife has a vacancy for a Band 3 Clinical Support Worker to assist in the provision of Horticulture Therapy to patients who are inpatients within the acute, rehab, low secure, IPCU wards and also patients living within the community.
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual who has an interest in working in mental health, has interest in working within Horticultural and Occupational Therapy, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills. We will provide opportunities to develop skills through our in-service and statutory training programme as well as support through our supervision and appraisal systems.
The post is based mainly at Stratheden Hospital in Cupar; however staff are expected to provide input to other areas when required.
You will have the ability to engage in practical skills, observation skills, good personal organisational skills, flexible approach and ability to work as part of a team. You will be required to have the following;

• Knowledge and / or experience of mental health issues

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh is looking for a Community Engagement Manager to join our Public Engagement team. The role is a job share 12 month fixed term contract, covering maternity leave (22.2 hours per week).

Reporting to the Head of Public Engagement, your role will cover working across the Botanic Cottage and Demonstration Garden. You will manage of 2 staff and approximately 30 volunteers. You will be involved in planning and delivering RBGE’s community programme including the Edible Gardening Project. You will also be involved in developing and supporting the strategy and programme for community use of the Botanic Cottage.

Applicants should be educated to degree level or have equivalent experience, be highly organised, have strong project planning and management experience, confident communicators and have prior budget management experience. You should also have previous experience of managing staff and volunteers. You should have an interest in horticulture and some practical knowledge. It is not essential to have any formal horticultural training.
