This session will enable you to gain an understanding of the practical and theoretical considerations involved in designing and using Therapeutic Horticulture (TH) spaces.
What will you learn ?
- Understand what Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (TH) spaces are
- Explore the theory and practical steps in TH garden design and the design process including accessibility and inclusivity, circulation and orientation, plant selection, sensory gardens
- Also consider the wellbeing outcomes of shelter, social and private spaces; connection with nature; restoration and disconnection from daily routine
How is it delivered?
- Live on-line training with experienced Trellis staff
- Interactive sessions using a combination of slides, breakout tasks, quizzes, video clips, with time for Q&A, and group discussions
- Includes downloadable course notes and Trellis web resources
Who should attend?
Anyone interested in/involved in gardening activity and health
Anyone interested in/delivering nature-connection activities
Professionals and volunteers supporting wellbeing, working in settings such as:
- Health e.g. nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, link workers with an interest in Green Health
- Care e.g. managers, care staff, activity co-ordinators
- Education e.g. teachers, classroom assistants, those specialising in additional and Special Educational Needs support
- Community and Specialist support groups e.g. mental health, dementia, homelessness, cancer support, welfare support
These sessions cost £45 each and a Trellis Membership discount of £10 per session can be applied.
