World Therapeutic Horticulture Day 2026

World Therapeutic Horticulture Day (WTHD) returns on 18 May 2026, inviting people across the globe to celebrate the life‑changing power of gardening for health and wellbeing — and to champion the growing recognition of therapeutic horticulture as a vital, evidence‑based practice. Founded by Trellis in 2023, this annual day has quickly become a vibrant international movement, uniting practitioners, gardeners, organisations, and anyone who has ever felt the benefit of Therapeutic Horticulture.

Whether you’re deeply rooted in the field or just beginning to explore it, you’re warmly welcomed to join in, helping to shine a light on this important profession and broaden access so everyone can benefit.

And getting involved is simple — use the free-to-download WTHD resources, share your stories, activities and garden moments on social media with #WTHD, spread the word in your community, and add your project or country to the global participation map to help grow recognition for therapeutic horticulture worldwide.

Why WTHD matters

Therapeutic horticulture is so much more than gardening. It’s connection, purpose, community, and care — a practice that supports mental, physical, emotional, and social wellbeing. WTHD shines a light on the people who deliver this work, the communities who benefit, and the growing global recognition of the profession. Countries already taking part include the UK, United States, France, Italy, India, Nigeria, Sweden, the Dominican Republic, Croatia — and the list keeps growing.

How to get involved

Taking part is wonderfully simple, scroll down to access them:

  • Download free WTHD resources — logos, social posts, info sheets, and more
  • Post on social media using #WTHD and Share your story — a moment in nature, a favourite garden space, an activity in action. Remember to tag us!
  • Spread the word in your community, workplace, or organisation
  • Join the global map by adding your country or project to the participation form

Every post, story, and shared experience helps build momentum and recognition for therapeutic horticulture worldwide.

root in nature

We are very grateful to our partners at Root in Nature for all their work helping to promote WTHD.

World Map

Emilee Weaver of Root in Nature is creating a globe icon showing each participating country as a flag. The data added will be combined to create a globe icon representing how much participation we have from around the world. We can all share this globe icon in May to show how big the movement is and later to show that more countries are taking part after WTHD week (this will be a good measure of the impact of our collective efforts).

Please complete the details on the form below to show your country will be participating. Thanks for filling in your information!
