Fiona Brown presents at SRUC

Trellis fieldworker Fiona gave a talk on Social and Therapeutic Horticulture (STH) to HNC horticulture, horticulture and plantsmanship, and garden design students at the SRUC campus in Edinburgh last week. She discussed her journey to becoming a STH practitioner including her community work with people living with aphasia, mental health peer support and advocacy, to student support for those with complex learning difficulties including autism, courses with Thrive to FutureLearn in mental health, psychology, and wellbeing, Fiona reflected on her time studying at SRUC, discussing the extra activities she did while studying at SRUC including being the students with disabilities officer at SRUCSA, and an internship in accessibility and assistive technology. Additionally, Fiona shared her current STH work which covers Trellis fieldwork, Defence Garden Scheme, and gardens she is developing - Eric Liddell Peace Garden to veterans community garden. It was a great opportunity to discuss and promote the benefits of being an STH practitioner.
