Green Routes provides training in horticulture, rural skills, independent living skills, and also employability skills for those progressing on to our employability programme ‘Routes to Work’. For more information go to www.greenroutes.org.uk.
Our main centre is The Walled Garden at Gargunnock House, near Stirling, and we will also have a new base at Gartmore where students will work towards their RCHS Grow and Learn awards. At Gargunnock Walled Garden the emphasis will be on developing employability skills, with a focus on creating a garden enterprise.
We have a vacancy for a Rural Skills Tutor. The job will be based at Gargunnock initially but as Gartmore is developed the job holder will be required to work across both sites. The purpose of the job is to deliver training in horticulture,woodworking and animal husbandry to students with additional support needs.
Applicants should have experience of working with people with additional support needs and significant experience of delivering horticulture and woodwork training. Knowledge of animal husbandry is desirable as is a relevant teaching qualification
The job holder will be required to participate in a weekend on call rota with other staff to support, if necessary, young people looking after livestock. This will be remunerated.

Heart, Mind & Soul is a volunteer project based at Silverburn Park in Leven. Volunteers give their time to help us maintain the Walled Garden and 27 acres of mixed woodland. They are vital to keeping Silverburn beautiful. In return they will learn new skills, enjoy socialising with each other and hopefully feel a sense of achievement in giving their time to their community. Tasks include the removal of invasive species and weeds, planting trees and shrubs, litter-picking and much more.
What’s the Job
As the horticulture project lead, you will work with volunteers to regenerate the walled garden, and wider areas of Silverburn Park Estate. You’ll have experience and knowledge of ornamental gardening and a wealth of experience in community horticulture. You’ll organise and supervise the volunteers doing practical tasks throughout the park. Working closely with the Volunteer Progression Officer (VPO), you will support volunteers in their progression towards qualifications through SQA, John Muir and other awards.
Delivering activities which will help implement the overall Park master-plan, Conservation Management Plan and Urban Woodland Management Plan supported by individual and group volunteers, peer supporters, local community members and partnership organisations

Help Yourself Grow is a horticultural training programme for young adults with a learning disability and other additional support needs. The programme has been established since 2016.
We are looking for an experienced gardener or trainer who could join our small team to deliver structured sessions at our Castlemilk training garden.
Often the trainees who come to our programme have found mainstream learning challenging, but are keen to enjoy the benefits of gardening and learn new things. Our programme develops a wide range of skills including numeracy, literacy, team working and communication, as well as helping friendships to develop.
You must be a confident gardener, well organised and have a can-do attitude. You will be expected to support learning, encourage participation as well as keeping trainees safe within the training environment, so a knowledge of health and safety within a garden setting would be advantageous.

Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity. We have represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for almost 100 years. About the Role
SAMH Redhall is a mental health recovery project based in a walled garden in South-West Edinburgh. We have a wonderful location in a wooded dell by the Water of Leith and indoor and outdoor facilities including polytunnels, vegetable beds, ornamental gardens, orchard, kitchen, library and training room.
The Instructor Team at Redhall provide a supportive environment to learn and practice skills in horticulture. The service has structured days and encourages people to build routine, be more active, spend time outdoors and work alongside others. Our Peer Worker and Employability Practitioner offer additional support for people to better manage their mental health, develop confidence and progress their goals.
The garden is open to the public during the week and also plays host to local partner projects who might arrange their own activities in the grounds. We also organise open days to sell plants, promote the service and raise awareness.
The Team Leader will be responsible for the day to day delivery of effective social and therapeutic horticulture activities at SAMH Redhall, creating a positive and purposeful environment for staff, service users and wider community.
What we are looking for
We are looking for someone with a track record of managing the delivery of programmes in health, greenspace and/or community settings. You will have the skills to undertake all aspects of managing the project day to day from the ground up - overseeing site/garden maintenance, developing programmes, managing staff and ensuring quality of support.
You have an understanding of partnership working and can identify and develop opportunities for joint working, coordinate and communicate with colleagues across the third sector and make reports to funders as required.
You have leadership experience and can confidently bring a team together with a strong sense of purpose and commitment to SAMH values. You are someone who wants to work with people with the ability to build rapport, show genuine interest in their recovery and handle difficult conversations with compassion. Position Summary
The freelance Urban Grow Worker/s will support our current Growing Well program, based across two
community gardens, the Concrete Garden and the Back Garden. We work with our community to create
spaces which enable people to come together to grow food, develop skills and confidence, make friends,
cook and eat together and participate in a wide range of workshops and volunteering opportunities. In
doing so, people are able to nourish themselves, their wellbeing and community.
Both gardens support individual and group plot-holders and run a seasonal program of social and
therapeutic sessions, where people are supported to grow their own food, and meet and work alongside
others on seasonal activities. The Growing Well program also includes Grow Your Own workshops,
wellbeing workshops which support skills for wellbeing through simple, budget-friendly, self-care practices,
as well as seasonal outdoor cookery, social activities, volunteer action days and taster sessions.
The Freelance Urban Grow Worker/s will co-facilitate our weekly Social Gardening session at the Back
Garden and our fortnightly Volunteer Maintenance session at the Concrete Garden as well as occasionally
support other activities and events if available.
Reports to: Urban Growing and Community Development Leads and Coordinator
Supervises: Volunteers, Plot holders and Community Gardeners
Essential Duties
Co-facilitate our weekly social gardening and volunteer maintenance sessions by:
● Ensuring the the smooth running of the sessions including welcoming participants, organising
refreshments etc., introducing new participants to the garden and the group.
● Supporting participants to learn about food growing and gardening and take part in activities by
providing appropriate support, demonstrations and practical advice so they get the most out of
their time in the garden.
● Managing health and safety throughout the sessions, practicing safe working and ensuring that
participants are advised of safe use of tools and materials. Ensuring PPE is worn when necessary
and that any accidents are reported and recorded in the accident book.
● Working to maintain a safe and positive environment by encouraging and supporting a positive and
inclusive group dynamic.
● Keeping the garden ordered and tidy and encouraging growers to assist in tidying up following their
activities.
● Support monitoring and evaluation of project outcomes by taking part in regular session debriefs/
reflection
Position Requirements
● Experience in community based food growing or related projects
● Experience working with a wide range of people/age groups
● Experience delivering food growing/gardening workshops and activities
● Experience with risk assessing and working safely in a garden environment
● The ability to work both independently and within a team
● A commitment and ability to practice with an inclusive, person-centered and participatory

About the role
As Garden Coordinator you’ll contribute to designing and managing a creative and interactive garden and programme for those engaging with our services.
