The Board of Amisfield Preservation Trust are keen to increase access to the garden by extending the opening hours over the weekend during the summer months. We are looking for a reliable, flexible, self-motivated and organised person who can manage the opening and closing of the garden during the weekend and on Tuesdays. They would be the point of contact for visitors. The postholder will also work alongside the Garden Coordinator for a half day during the week (Monday to Friday) to ensure they are aligned to the vision and values of the garden, and to communicate any concerns, questions, etc to the Garden Coordinator.
This post is offered on a fixed contract of six months (1st April 2026 to 30th September 2026). The role will be reconsidered by the Board during late 2026 with the possibility of being opened for application in 2027.

Main Duties and Responsibilities
• To be responsible for the opening and closing of the garden during the weekend and on Tuesdays.
• To ensure that the garden is a safe place for visitors and volunteers, and work in conjunction with our health and safety policies.
• To ensure that facilities are kept safe and clean.
• Assist the Garden Coordinator with the organisation of various garden events at the weekend
• To ensure the produce area is continually well stocked with a range of plants, (seasonal) fruit and vegetables and other produce.
• To ensure plants in the nursery, greenhouse and poly tunnel areas are adequately watered at the weekend if necessary
• To enhance our visitor experience by being based around the cabin in order to offer a “meet and greet” service to visitors, advise visitors of the locations of horticultural interest and practicalities (toilets, sheltered areas, produce stand, etc) and be the point of contact for their enquiries.
• To work alongside the Garden Coordinator, Well Being Worker and Board members to further develop the work of Amisfield as a historical walled garden.
• To work in all parts and all aspects of the garden’s horticultural work as required.
