No budget to buy these new plants? Pick evergreen foliage from the garden or a neighbours (with permission) – choose a mix of leaf shapes and colours if possible, and make a large arrangement of leafy stems in the planter – evergreen foliage such as holly, laurel and conifer will remain fresh looking for a few months
