Lothlorien Therapeutic Community
Lothlorien Community is looking for a sessional support worker to join us at our quiet rural setting in South West Scotland.
We are a therapeutic community providing the opportunity for people facing mental health challenges to develop their potential through living alongside others who are relatively well, in an atmosphere of friendship, acceptance and mutual support.
Lothlorien has been run since 1989 by the Rokpa Trust, an international charity founded by Dr. Akong Rinpoche of Samye Ling Tibetan Centre in Dumfriesshire. Buddhist values of compassion and tolerance are the basis of our approach, but we are not a religious community and are open to everyone.
We’re now looking for a sessional support worker to get involved in all aspects of community life, including therapeutic gardening, art, qigong and relaxation.
Our ideal candidate will have a compassionate and trauma informed approach to mental health support, a keen interest in therapeutic gardening as well as having the skills to help out with administrative tasks.
It’s a sessional job and salary will be £12 per hour. We’d like someone to be able to do around 3 days per week and be available for holiday cover as needed.

Around since 1923, SAMH is Scotland’s national mental health charity. We have represented the voice of people most affected by mental health problems in Scotland for almost 100 years. About the Role
Redhall is a mental health service based in an award winning walled garden/six acre estate in Edinburgh. In a beautiful outdoor setting we promote recovery from mental ill health through therapeutic horticulture including organic gardening, conservation and team working. There is a strong group work emphasis, staff work with the people attending our service to develop and maintain the garden, plant nursery and estate which is open to the public on weekdays and occasional weekends. Duties also include key working responsibilities, supporting our service users with their personal development plans.
What we are looking for
We are seeking a creative, enthusiastic and practical individual to join our team of eight.
Applicants should have: You will have experience in horticulture, ideally both garden and plant nursery work, and of supporting groups in an outdoor setting. You will be able to demonstrate good communication skills and a mature attitude together with adaptability, creativity and enthusiasm. You will also have experience and a good understanding of working with mental health issues. You will be required to work flexibly to suit the needs of the service including some evening and weekend working.

Working alongside the gardener, project development worker, trustees and volunteers you will be instrumental in providing practical, hands-on support, such as general maintenance, gardening and driving the electric van for veg box deliveries.

Grow West Fife

Culross, Fife
Grow West Fife are looking for a great community gardener to join the award-winning team at their Culross garden.
GWF was set up in lockdown 2020 to grow food for anyone in need. Last year their volunteers gave 5000 hours growing fruit and veg, cooked 1000 free meals for people on low incomes or socially isolated, and worked with fabulous local groups like Andy’s Man Club, Fairway Fife and Change Mental Health to make sure everybody’s welcome. Their efforts were rewarded when we won Fife Voluntary Action’s Green Charity of the Year award.
Now we’re looking for an experienced gardener to help us grow more fruit, veg and new friendships at our volunteer-led, socially inclusive, beautiful walled garden overlooking the Forth in Culross.
Our ideal candidate will be a great gardener, passionate about growing and sharing growing skills and knowledge, with good experience of working with community groups and people with different abilities and needs. They’ll be ‘front of house’ with the necessary warmth and people skills to get the kettle on and ensure everyone feels incredibly welcome and comfortable with us. It is, first and foremost, a place of joy.
Hopefully they’ll be able to share that joy on social media to draw in new volunteers and visitors.
It’s a Tuesday to Saturday job and salary will be between £26,000 and £28,000 depending on experience.

Camphill Wellbeing Trust
Camphill Wellbeing Trust is a medical charity which provides extended approaches to address illness, support resilience and maintain wellbeing. We have a dedicated and passionate team of employees and volunteers, based across three sites approximately 6 miles west of Aberdeen City. A vacancy has arisen within the Compass Project team for an enthusiastic and capable volunteer coordinator to take on the development and coordination of our Compass project volunteers, including those referred through social prescribing, employability services, corporate and schools’ groups.
The role involves coordinating and assisting with the delivery of the Compass project’s volunteering and social prescribing activities to deliver a range of defined outcomes focused on healthy and sustainable living. There will be an initial focus on those taking place in the outdoor areas with development of indoor activities once the Multi-Purpose Hall is refurbished (summer 2024). Strong organisational and IT skills are required as is a willingness to work outdoors alongside a range of volunteers. Ability to forward plan, set targets and effectively monitor /analyse outcomes is essential. Gardening experience would be an asset.
Key responsibilities include:
• Effective management of Compass volunteer and social prescribing services including employability skills, corporate and schools groups, working in partnership with outdoor area team and under strategic direction of the Enterprise & Development Manager
• Efficient completion of related administrative work
• Liaising with relevant stakeholders including Camphill organisations
•Managing health & safety of a range of volunteer experiences both in outdoor areas and eventually in indoor spaces.

The Hidden Gardens
The Hidden Gardens is a multi-award-winning art and design garden and Scotland’s first sanctuary gardens dedicated to peace. Located between the communities of Pollokshields East and Govanhill; we are a small, friendly organisation run by a team of part-time staff and the heads, hearts and hands of many volunteer trustees, advisors, and gardeners. Broadly speaking, we aim to promote health and wellbeing – of people, and the planet.
Outdoor Learning Facilitation worker (£14.18 per hour) We are looking for someone to work ad hoc hours (70 hours) to deliver 21 inspiring short outdoors learning sessions, using the gardens as a resource, with small groups of pupils from several local primary schools, from mid-May onwards during term time. The project team includes the Community Programme Manager, this role, and a project assistant. Sessions will be scheduled by the project assistant, based on the availability of the schools and the facilitation worker.
An ability to communicate positively with a wide range of people will be important as is experience of training or facilitating outdoors in a community setting.

The MacRobert Trust

The MacRobert Trust supports Horticultural Education through its extensive charitable agenda. Our Horticultural Training Scheme accepts up to six trainees who are paid a salary and provided with accommodation. Training placements run for both one and two years and applications are now invited for four trainees to start in mid-September.
A programme of full-time, practical hands-on training, craft-skill development and proficiency, and machinery use and maintenance is undertaken whilst trainees assist our professional gardens team in the maintenance and development of the Trust’s ornamental and productive horticultural training gardens. Additionally, full training and assessment towards the achievement of the RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture is funded and undertaken in-house throughout the year. Training and assessment in pesticide application PA1/PA6 and chainsaw operation CS30 is also carried out allowing trainees to achieve and practice these important certificates of competence. Training is based at our flagship Douneside House Garden which is an RHS Partner Garden and an RHS Qualifications Approved Centre.
Applications are encouraged from current or recently qualified horticultural college students who wish to progress their horticultural skills and enhance their professional career options through a programme of; hands-on immersive training and practice, RHS Qualifications, Certificates of Competence and structured work experience. Applications are also encouraged from new entrants to horticulture who, alongside the above, will also have the opportunity to study towards the RHS Principles of Horticulture Level 2 through distance learning. A second year is available to two trainees and may include paid internships to the Royal Botanic Gardens Logan, National Trust of Scotland Crathes Gardens and The Prince’s Foundation Dumfries House Gardens.
Whilst horticultural qualifications are not essential, applicants must provide clear evidence of a keen interest in developing a professional horticultural career.
The training placements are full-time and trainees are paid the National Minimum Wage and share accommodation within a modern, fully equipped six- bedroom estate house. Each trainee has their own private bedroom and en-suite bath/shower room.
MacRobert trainees have all been fortunate in gaining full-time employment, many within prestigious gardens across the UK, or have secured progressive training placements at RHS Gardens, Cambridge University Botanical Gardens, Kew, Longwood Gardens, Pennsylvania and many more.

With the growth of our exciting new project, Compass, a vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic and capable General Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the charity across its core services and projects.
The role involves managing CWT’s personnel, physical and financial resources to ensure sustainable growth and development of the charity in line with its goals and ethos. Excellent leadership skills, a strong business mind with an ability to communicate effectively and pay attention to detail is required along with previous experience in management including the analysis of business finance. Education to a degree level is highly desirable as is competence in IT and PR. Candidates should have experience in human resources with skills in organisation, delegation and collaboration.
